FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“PACT Continues its Support of Hurricane Recovery Efforts with a $200,000 support grant to the Belize Coast Guard and Fisheries Department.”

December 19, 2022 — (Belmopan, BZE) The Protected Areas Conservation Trust continues its support of hurricane relief efforts among protected areas, conservation, and biodiversity management stakeholders. This time PACT is providing financial support to the Belize Fisheries Department and Belize Coast Guard worth a total value of $200,000.00. These support grants join several others provided since November as part of a larger contribution of $500,000.00 being made to support ongoing actions towards recovery and restoration following the passage of Hurricane Lisa.

The financial support provided by PACT in this instance will assist in the repair of infrastructure, including docking and jetty facilities, for the Fisheries Department and Coast Guard. These facilities are very important for these organizations, whose operations include research and enforcement in marine protected areas.

Starting in November, PACT has issued similar grants to some of its conservation partners, specifically, the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, the Belize Audubon Society, the University of Belize, Programme for Belize, The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Centre, and the Community Baboon Sanctuary. Additionally, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, PACT also provided $150,000 to assist the Government of Belize’s national call for support to ongoing Hurricane Recovery Efforts.

Overall, the contributions reflect PACT’s core values of Leadership, Collaboration, and Good Stewardship and are guided by the organization’s vision of achieving a sustainable and productive Belizean environment that benefits all.
