Environmental Fair “Down South” sees great participation!

PACT attended Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management’s (SATIIM) Environmental School Fair held on June 5. The fair was part of SATIIM’s Environmental Education Program, and this year was held in Midway Village, Toledo District.

Last year, PACT had the privilege of being a judge at the fair and we did so again this year! We saw a great improvement in participation and projects. This year, 4 organizations participated: Plenty Belize (who took home the NGO prize), Association of Protected Areas Management Organization (APAMO), Belize Audubon Society (BAS) and SocioEconomic Outreach. SATIIM saw an increase in the number of participating schools, having 10 schools participate this year.

This year the schools were tasked with the theme “Green Economy: Does it include you?” San Felipe Government School demonstrated and presented this theme best, and once again took home 1st Place for the school competition. Barranco however, impressed us the most, with a big improvement from last year’s participation. This year, they were more knowledgeable and creative and had excellent presentation skills. Barranco took home the 2nd Place for school competition and their student, Esperanza, took home the prize for the best presenter at the fair.
